Albert J Gilbert, 90, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2022, at Libertyville Manor Extended Care. He was born on April 15, 1931, in Scranton, PA, to Joseph and Anna Gilbert. The family moved to Waukegan IL when Al was 4, and he attended St. Bartholomew grade school, and Waukegan Township High School, class of 1948. Al was an Army veteran, serving in Korea. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Maryanne {nee Zabukovec}. They were married on May 21, 1955, and were happily married until her passing in 2020. They had one child, Geralynn.

He worked for Johnson Motors/Outboard Marine Corporation for 20 years, then for the Lake County Finance Department for 15 years, retiring in 1996.

Al and Maryanne were founding members of St. Dismas Catholic Church in Waukegan, and he became a member of St. Patrick Church when he moved to Wadsworth in 2000. He was a member and Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, Waukegan Council #731. He was also a 4 ^th Degree member of the Bishop Quarter Assembly. He was an avid golfer, and achieved a hole-in-one in 2002 while vacationing in AZ. He was a die-hard White Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Notre Dame fan, and enjoyed rooting for any team that played the Chicago Bears. He also loved playing cribbage, first in a league with his nephew, then once a week at home during the pandemic

He is survived by his daughter Geralynn, numerous cousins, including Michael (Karen) Kabarec, Karol (Tom) Dillivan, and Tom Kabarec, nieces and nephew Joan Marsh, Edward (Gail) Pasiewicz, Jamie Zabukovec (Larry Thompson), Judy Derra, Janice (Richard) Davis, and Julie Zabukovec (Rob McKay); great nieces and nephews Billy (Jeannie) Marsh, Theresa (John) Brouillard. Michael Pasiewicz (Katie Miller), Tesia Derra (Agim Alijoski), Lindy Pasiewicz (Kyle Mills), Eric Pasiewicz, Meredith Davis, Torie (Nathan) Strawder, Tanner Davis, and Alex Pasiewicz; great-great, and great great great nieces and nephews Nick Jikomes, Amanda Marsh, Tyler Marsh (Brooke Heyduk), Brianna Marsh, Emma Brouillard, Jacob Brouillard, Adelina Alijoski, Bekim Alijoski, Lule Alijoski, Johana Alijoski, Malina Alojiski. Alice Culver, William Burns, Michael Pasiewicz, Carter Pasiewicz, Eli Mills, Wesley Davenport, and Nathan Strawder.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Maryanne, his parents, and brother Reverend Joseph P Gilbert, mother in law, Mary Zabukovec, and sisters in law and brothers in law Millie and John (Jay)  Terchek, Alice and Edward (Buck) Pasiewicz, and John  and Jennie Zabukovec, as well as nephew Bill Marsh.
