Rita M. Leonaitis

Rita M. Leonaitis, 93, of North Chicago, IL , and presently residing at Theresa’s Home Care in Gurnee, IL, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026. Rita was born on July 21, 1932 in Waukegan, IL and was a life long area resident. She was employed at the Lake Shore Foundry in Waukegan for 23 years before joining Johnson Motors where she worked for 21 years before retiring. Rita was a very active member of St. Bartholemew Church (currently Most Blessed Trinity Parish, Holy Family Church) in Waukegan. She was a member of St. Bart’s Catholic Women’s Club, St. Therese Altar Society, and Senior Circle, and also a volunteer at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan and Meals on Wheels. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Minister of Care at St. Bart’s and Holy Family Churches. She is survived by nephews; Mark (Faith) Konchan, Timothy (Mary Jane) Leonaitis, Michael Leonaitis, and Wayne (Christine) Leonaitis, and nieces; Laurie Blinn and Kerrie Harwig. She was preceded in death by siblings; Steve (Frances) Leonaitis, Edward (Rose) Leonaitis, Harriet (Edward) Konchan, Stanley (Marion) Leonaitis, Walter (Joanne) Leonaitis, and John and Bernice Leonaitis. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Church, 450 Keller Ave., Waukegan, IL. The Most Reverend Timothy O’Malley will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of Mass at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
